Independent book publicist Jordan Taylor-Jones has launched a new independent bookshop in the seaside town of West Kirby, on the Wirral in Merseyside.
The West Kirby Bookshop, which opened its doors for the first time on 23rd July, aims to establish a cultural hub for the community and will stock a wide range of books, focusing particularly on literary fiction, non-fiction and children’s books.
Author and non-author events programmes are also planned, seeking to break away from the traditional Q&A format. Customers will be able to attend in-person events, book clubs, readings and talks, both in the newly opened store and in other venues partners around the Wirral.
Taylor-Jones works primarily with UK-based independent publishers in his role as as a publicist, and was one of The Bookseller’s 2022 Rising Stars. He has a background in retail, having previously worked at Waterstones.
"I’m thrilled to finally be opening The West Kirby Bookshop," he said. "I worked in retail for 13 years and have always been incredibly passionate about customer service. I’m under no illusion that surviving on the high street is a difficult task in 2022, but I’m optimistic that by bringing my retail and PR experience together, The West Kirby Bookshop will deliver an exceptional customer experience and become a key addition to the local community. The response from local businesses, public figures, schools and the general public has been overwhelmingly positive and I can’t wait to welcome everyone through our doors."
