Booklaunch, a free magazine of new book extracts, is suspending publication while it seeks investment from potential partners.
The magazine, which launched in the autumn of 2018, has been appearing quarterly for the past four years but says it has faced increasingly difficult trading conditions.
During this time it has maintained a regular distribution to a minimum of 50,000 readers per issue.
Booklaunch said its troubles have been brought on by current economic pressures, with publishers less willing to buy the advertising that the magazine has until now relied on.
During its four years, Booklaunch has started up its own publishing house, EnvelopeBooks, one of whose titles – A Sin of Omission by Marguerite Poland – won the 2021 Book of the Year Award in South Africa. EnvelopeBooks has in turn given birth to PostcardBooks, which brings out memoirs, and BroadsheetBooks, which publishes series, the first of which was William Keeling’s The Gay Street Chronicles in March of this year.
EnvelopeBooks and its sibling brands will also be launching in North America in spring 2023.
Dr Stephen Games, the founder and editor of the magazine, is currently inviting interest from potential backers. He can be contacted at editor@booklaunch.london
