To ring in the new year, many publications, including the Guardian, Times, Telegraph, Daily Mail, Financial Times, New York Times, Irish Times and iNews, released their best books coming out in 2022.
Five books that are coming out within the next three months dominated the lists: To Paradise by Hanya Yanagihara (Picador), Free Love by Tessa Hadley (Cape), Love Marriage by Monica Ali (Virago), Again, Rachel by Marian Keyes (Michael Joseph) and French Braid by Anne Tyler (Chatto & Windus)
Claire Allfree writing for the Times described Hanya Yanagihara’s To Paradise as “frequently magnificent, thanks to Yanagihara’s skill at immersing the reader deep within the emotional world of her characters, as they face agonising choices in the name of sexual and filial love". The novel also featured in the Guardian, Telegraph, Times, Daily Mail, Financial Times and iNews 2022 best books list. As well as The Bookseller’s January 2022: Discover Previews list.
Free Love by Tessa Hadley featured in Guardian, Times, Daily Mail and Financial Times 2022 best books list. The Financial Times’ Mia Levitin described Hadley’s latest novel as adding “a Sixties twist to Anna Karenina”.
The Daily Mail named Love Marriage by Monica Ali as one of the biggest buzz books of the year. Stephanie Cross and Helen Brown described Ali’s latest novel as “a memorable exploration of modern love and modern Britain”.
iNews’ Susie Mesure listed French Braid by Anne Tyler as one of the most anticipated books for 2022, as she hailed Tyler “a queen of American literature”.
Finally, Again, Rachel by Marian Keyes was hailed the “long-awaited sequel to Rachel’s Holiday” by Martin Doyle at the Irish Times. The novel also featured in the Telegraph, Daily Mail and the Scotsman.
