Suzy Krause’s Sorry I Missed You (Lake Union) posted straight to the top of the Bookstat e-book chart for the week ending 6th June. The Canadian author’s romantic ghost story—about three flatmates, thrown together after they are (literally) ghosted—topped a chart of new entries. Only one title, Jackie Kabler’s The Perfect Couple (One More Chapter), returned from the week before.
Bookstat favourite L J Ross returned with her self-published Bedlam, hitting second place. Both Reni Eddo-Lodge’s Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race (Bloomsbury) and Candice Carty-Williams’ Queenie (Trapeze) made their debuts in the Bookstat chart, as their print editions soared up the TCM. We’ve mentioned before how Bookstat’s estimated figures, based on normal buying habits, may underestimate e-book sales during the lockdown boom—it seems the explosion in sales inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement may also be outside of Bookstat’s calibrations, as Hachette’s figures show Queenie sold 16,651 units, 68% more than the Bookstat estimate.
