Alex Michaelides’ The Silent Patient (Orion) has held the Bookstat e-book number one for a second week, holding firm for the week ending 30th May. Sally Rooney’s Normal People (Faber) once again joined it in second place. Scott Mariani’s The Pretender’s Gold (Avon) was the highest new entry in third place, with the current Original Fiction number one Michael Connelly’s Fair Warning (Orion) hitting sixth.
The chart also featured a rare sighting of a non-fiction book—Rangan Chatterjee’s Feel Better in 5 (Penguin), which, in print, hit the Paperback Non-Fiction chart in early January. Perhaps, as lockdown eases, the book market will see a New Year’s-style resurgence of healthy eating cookbooks and fitness guides, as the nation attempts to do up its work clothes for the first time in three months.
Hachette stated that The Silent Patient sold 22,539 copies, Fair Warning 8,278, The Sister-in-Law 11,830 and Where the Crawdads Sing 8,561 for the week ending 30th May.
