The Borough Press will be releasing a limited print run of a special signed edition of Joanna Cannon’s forthcoming novel, A Tidy Ending, exclusively to independent bookshops.
The hardback will feature a short story by Cannon, which was written for Sarah Franklin’s Short Stories Aloud literary event in 2016 and performed by actor Lissa Berry.
This previously unpublished monologue introduces Linda, a socially awkward, lonely woman who misreads the signals from a drunk man in a hotel bar, and was the genesis for Cannon’s latest novel. Linda evolved to become the protagonist of A Tidy Ending, along the way acquiring a husband called Terry, a job in a charity shop, and a supporting cast of very vocal characters.
Cannon said: “The indies and their amazing booksellers have played such an important role in my book-writing journey. Their enthusiasm and generosity made such a difference to my last two novels and it’s a joy to be able to offer them this special edition as a thank you for their incredible support.”
The exclusive edition of A Tidy Ending will be available for readers to pre-order from Bookshop.org or direct from independent bookshops.
A Tidy Ending will be published in hardback, e-book and audio on 28th April 2022. It is the first book in a two-book contract Borough Press signed with Cannon in 2017.
