Solaris has launched a new digital-first imprint headed by editor Amy Borsuk. Solaris Nova will focus on "uniquely punchy and fast-paced" science fiction, fantasy and horror.
Launching its first title in February 2024, the imprint is looking to build a list of books that draw readers in through romance and mystery and "push the boundaries of the imagination". It especially seeks out to publish agented and un-agented writers from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds. The publisher offers authors a 50% of net revenue royalty on every e-book sold and a 20% of net revenue royalty of every print on demand book sold.
In addition to seeking out new voices, Solaris Nova will also be the home of a selection of backlist Solaris titles, with the full list of forthcoming titles for 2024 to be announced soon. It will publish a mix of approximately 12 backlist and new titles a year, and its long-term aim is for an equal split between backlist and new titles published annually.
Borsuk, who will be joined by an editorial team comprising Amanda Rutter, David Thomas Moore and Chiara Mestieri, said: “Nova is going to be a wonderful opportunity for our team to build new relationships with innovative and diverse authors of sci-fi, fantasy and horror, and to bring these compelling stories to a wide-reaching audience of avid readers."
Submissions are now open and agented submissions can be sent direct to novasubmissions@rebellion.co.uk, while un-agented submissions should be submitted through the form on Solaris’ website. Required supporting documents include a cover letter, a synopsis and a full manuscript.
