Serena Brett has joined Little, Brown Book Group as editor for the Sphere non-fiction list, supporting on key acquisitions and commissioning commercial non-fiction. Moreover, Ifrah Ismail has taken on the role of editorial assistant, providing editorial support across the fiction and non-fiction list.
Brett is particularly interested in health, accessible self-help, lifestyle, trend-led pop culture, TV tie-ins and any proposal from a celebrity, influencer or podcaster. She is joining from Fane Productions, where she was the head of audience development and branding.
During her six years at Fane, Brett produced events in collaboration with publishers, agents, bookshops and talent, including Malala Yousafzai, Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Elizabeth Day, among others. She was also responsible for launching book subscription service Pandora’s Books with Pandora Sykes, programming the Authors on Stage series at the National Theatre, and setting up creative partnerships with Jacaranda Books, Dark Matter and Brixton House. Before her role at Fane, she worked in the Curtis Brown talent department as agent assistant to two heads of department.
Meanwhile, before joining Sphere, Ismail worked as a literary assistant at The Bush Theatre and went on to become the New Work Producer at Talawa Theatre Company, with both roles involving working closely with writers to develop and produce plays.
Cath Burke, Little, Brown deputy managing director and Sphere executive publisher said: "Ifrah has been a wonderful new addition to the team, impressing us at every step, and Serena has joined at an exciting moment in Sphere’s non-fiction growth – her understanding of audiences and how we reach them with our books is exceptional and I can’t wait to see how her publishing will develop."
Brett said: "I spent many happy years at Fane working with Alex and the team to grow the company to where it is today. However, working in publishing has been a long-held aspiration and the opportunity to join the mighty team at Sphere was a dream come true. I can’t wait to start commissioning and look forward to reconnecting with agents."
