Burleigh Dodds Science Publishing, independent publisher of content in agricultural and food science, has appointed George Walkley as non-executive director on the board. Walkley is an independent strategy consultant and spent 15 years at Hachette. He is also an expert in artificial intelligence (AI) in publishing and media.
He has worked with the Independent Publishers Guild, developing the world’s first independent, award-winning, CPD-accredited training course on generative AI for publishers. He succeeds Kit van Tulleken, who recently stepped down from the Burleigh Dodds board.
Rob Burleigh, managing director of Burleigh Dodds, said: "In an environment where it seems that every other conversation is about AI, a constant discussion point in the publishing world, we are delighted to welcome George to the Burleigh Dodds Board. With George’s extensive publishing experience and expertise in AI, this is a strategically significant appointment as we navigate the challenges of embracing and integrating AI technology into the business, and maximising the impact and success of products such as our new AI supported platform AgNetZero."
Walkley said: "I have found Burleigh Dodds to be a progressive, and deeply impressive, organisation. Its innovative AgNetZero AI platform would be an achievement for a publisher of any scale, and much more so for an independent publisher. I am looking forward to working with Rob Burleigh, Francis Dodds, Martin Woodhead and the rest of the board."
