Hayley Camis has been appointed head of publicity for non-fiction at Bloomsbury, moving from her role as acting deputy publicity director at Little, Brown.
In the new role, which is effective immediately, she will be focusing on non-fiction, working in the adult consumer division.
She reports to Fran Owen and Mari Yamazaki, publicity directors of the adult consumer publicity team.
Camis started her publishing career at HarperCollins before joining Little, Brown in 2016 where she worked across the literary imprints Abacus, Corsair, Fleet and Virago and headed the publicity for the Virago Modern Classics list. She has been shortlisted for multiple PPC awards for her non-fiction and fiction campaigns, has been a mentor in the Society of Young Publishers’ mentorship scheme and was named one of The Bookseller’s Rising Stars in 2021.
She was part of the small team at Hachette UK who created and launched The Feminist Book Box, and which won Team of the Year at The FutureBook awards in 2021. She has worked on a variety of non-fiction, fiction, classics and poetry campaigns including Love Marriage by Monica Ali, Zarifa by Zarifa Ghafari, Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng, The Candy House by Jennifer Egan, Solid Ivory by James Ivory and Just Ignore Him by Alan Davies.
"I’m thrilled to be joining Bloomsbury at such an exciting time for the company," she said. "I have long admired their publishing and the amazing campaigns from the publicity and marketing teams. I look forward to working with them on our incredible list of spring 2023 non-fiction titles, some of which are sure to be books of the year."
Owen and Yamazaki said: "Hayley has a very impressive list of authors and campaigns under her belt, and her experience and talent is clear to see. But she also played a vital role in our industry with her leadership, energy and creativity, dedicating time for Hachette’s mentorship programme and for the Society of Young Publishers and as part of the committee for Hachette’s Gender Balance network. We are delighted she is joining our publicity team and know she will find like-minded and talented colleagues to keep her company."
