Canelo will launch new imprint Canelo Horror in October 2023 which will "honour books and authors that have shaped the genre while charting its own territory to offer the most unique and chilling novels being written today".
John Langan’s The Fisherman will spearhead the list as the first book to be published on 9th October 2023. Never before published in the UK and Commonwealth, the novel won the Bram Stoker Award in 2016 and follows two widowers who are "drawn into the dark and twisting tale of a local reservoir" which will make them confront everything they’ve lost.
In 2024, Canelo Horror will published a "mix of reissues and new publications" including fellow Bram Stoker Award winner Sarah Langan and finalist Ronald Malfi. Jóhann Thorsson’s crime-horror crossover will also feature on the list alongside a supernatural horror from "up-and-coming talent" C M Rosens.
Commissioning editor Kit Nevile said: "Horror has always been an area of great personal and professional interest, but the landscape for the genre has exploded in recent times, with ever more titles crossing from niche interest into the mainstream.
"Even beyond the surge of TikTok buzz, there’s a resurgent respect and appreciation for horror, from readers and from within the industry. I’m incredibly excited, both for the list’s launch and the potential for horror in years to come. We aim to bring a diverse and talented group of authors to the fore, and establish our list as one of the best in the country."
