Canongate has launched a singing competition to give bookshops the chance for author Matt Lucas to visit their shop.
The publisher is calling on booksellers to make a video of themselves singing along to the "Middle of the Book" song which features in Lucas' forthcoming title Little Me, to be in a chance to win a visit from Lucas before Christmas. The song's music and lyrics are available on the Canongate website.
Little Me will be published on 3rd October and takes an alphabetical journey through Lucas’ life. He explains: “B is for Baldy! - which is what people used to shout at me in the playground (not much fun), G is for Gay (because I’m an actual real life gay) and T is for the TARDIS (because I’m a companion in Doctor Who now). You get the sort of thing. And, of course, M is for Middle of the book and comes with its own Middle of the Book song.”
Entries should be sent to to campaigns@canongate.co.uk with a link to the video uploaded to WeTransfer, or Youtube, Facebook or Twitter, and the subject line ‘Our little song’. The closing date for the competition is Friday 27th October.
The winning shop will see Lucas visit on Tuesday 5th December to sign books.
The Canongate team have provided an example of their attempt at singing the song to inspire entrants.
