Lara Carmona has been appointed director of policy and engagement at Creative UK.
As part of her new role, which begins in early March 2023, she will work directly with policymakers, politicians, creative individuals and organisations to champion creative industries in the UK.
Before joining the company, Carmona was the associate director of policy and public affairs for the Royal College of Nursing. Before this, she worked in strategy and policy development for organisations including Marie Curie and Rethink. Carmona is currently completing a Masters degree in Global Political Economy.
Caroline Norbury, chief executive of Creative UK, said: “We are thrilled to have appointed Lara, with her passion, commitment and track record for driving change. Her deep understanding and experience of tackling major societal issues, as well as the fresh perspectives she brings with her, will be enormous assets in advocating for the transformative role creativity can play in all walks of life. I am particularly excited by Lara’s bold and positive approach to using data and collaboration in bringing people together to identify opportunities and create system change.”
Carmona said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Creative UK as director of policy and engagement. It is a huge privilege to be invited to work with individuals and organisations across the UK to drive the creative industries forward.
“I believe that creative expression acts as a powerful catalyst for change and transformation – whether that is generating prosperity within society, driving the economy, tackling inequalities or supporting people to understand the centrality of creativity in life. There is, for all of us, an incredible opportunity for our ideas and innovation to drive inclusive growth in the UK, and leading internationally too. Seizing this chance, and collaborating to make significant change for the better, is at the heart of what I’m here to do. I can’t think of a better place to be than Creative UK to deliver this important agenda.”
