Carolyn Thorne is leaving HarperCollins to join Hodder imprint Yellow Kite to lead a new strand of publishing focused on spirituality, inspiration and conscious living.
In her new role as Yellow Kite editorial director, she will also publish some titles in the areas of personal growth and empowerment, self-help and health. Thorne will start at Yellow Kite, as Editorial Director. Thorne will join the team later this year.
She said: "I have enjoyed my time at HarperCollins, and I have always admired the Yellow Kite list from afar. I now have a chance to play a part in its growth by bringing my focus and expertise to find new authors and voices to add a wider dimension to the publishing and help grow a backlist for the future. It is too good an opportunity to miss."
Thorne has headed up the HarperCollins Thorsons list for the last five years and was previously at Hay House, Random House and Virgin Books. At Thorsons she published a range of bestselling authors, including Dr Rupy Aujla, Robin Sharma, Steve Biddulph, Elaine Aron, Jason Vale, Alice Liveing, Stacey Solomon and many others.
Yellow Kite and Lifestyle publisher Liz Gough said: "Carolyn is just the person for this new role, and I am really pleased that she is joining to help strengthen our publishing. Developing this strand of publishing at YK is a natural extension to our list, as we already publish some of the leading authors in this space. We are seeing a thirst for and mainstream acceptance of topics around meditation, spiritual growth, ancient wisdom, self-care, healing and conscious living – in print and audio and across all our English-language speaking territories, as well as in translation."
Hodder m.d. Carolyn Mays added: "We know that spiritual inspiration is an area ripe for growth, and to have a publisher with such deep and authentic knowledge of the area is fantastic opportunity for Yellow Kite, and for Hodder as a whole."
An announcement on Thorne's replacement at Thorsons will be announced in due course. Thorsens publisher Ed Faulkner said: "Carolyn has published some brilliant books during her time at Thorsons and we wish her every success in her next chapter at Yellow Kite. We remain hugely committed to growing the successful Thorsons imprint and look forward to announcing a new Editorial Director in due course."
