Emily Cary-Elwes is joining Icon Books as head of publicity.
She makes the move from Hurst, where she was head of publicity. Prior to that, she was UK head of publicity at Norton for nearly nine years, working with authors including Paul Krugman, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, E O Wilson, Frans De Waal, Emily Wilson and Jill Lapore. During her time there, she worked to promote debut fiction writers and helped launch W W Norton’s children’s imprint in 2019.
She has also worked at Virgin, Hodder, Octopus and Carlton Books across a variety of genres, including non-fiction, celebrity authored titles, horror, memoir, cookery and fiction.
“I am thrilled to have been appointed as head of publicity at Icon Books and look forward to joining their dynamic team," she said. "I will relish the opportunity to drive increased exposure of the list, titles and authors during this exciting period of growth for Icon and championing its high-quality, innovative publishing programme."
Associate publisher Andrew Furlow said: "I’m delighted that Emily will be joining us in this new role at Icon, which is an important milestone in our ambitious plan for growth. Emily has built an incredibly impressive career to date, working on both headline-grabbing books with household-name authors as well as skilfully exciting interest in debuts and lesser-known voices. Her role—which will include managing freelance publicists, in particular Ruth Killick Publicity, with whom Icon will continue our long and productive relationship on certain titles—will be central to our publishing and I am greatly looking forward to welcoming her to the team."
Cary-Elwes will start in the role on 23rd June.
