Liv Tyler, Daisy Lowe and Stella McCartney attended the book launch of meditation expert Bob Roth.
The event took place at the Wellington Arch in Hyde Park on Monday evening (26th February) to celebrate Strength in Stillness: The Power of Transcendental Meditation (Simon & Schuster UK) by Roth, the executive director of the David Lynch Foundation.
The foundation was founded by the film director and Roth in 2005 and "brings meditation to those in need". Roth teaches the practice at inner-city schools, hospitals, shelters and prisons, as well instructing “leading figures in the worlds of media and business”. He has also recently been teaching employees at S&S UK how to meditate with Ian Chapman, c.e.o and publisher at S&S UK, apparently next on the list.
Roth told The Bookseller: "I told a young man, Albert Lee, who’s a literary agent [of Aevitas Creative Management agency] in New York, to meditate and he told me to write a book about it. I said. ‘I don’t have any time’ and he said ‘I don’t care, I’m going to write a proposal and find a publisher’. And he did.”
Strength in Stillness has attracted praise from Russell Brand, Gwyneth Paltrow, Michael J Fox and Arianna Huffington, among others. It is Roth's first book.
The guide explores how to meditate and outlines the benefits, as well featuring stories from people whose lives have been “dramatically improved” by using his techniques.
Chapman said: “Bob Roth is a wonderful author, we are dedicated to getting this life changing book into the hands of as many people as possible. For nearly five decades, [he] has helped bring transcendental meditation to millions of people around the world – in 35 countries across Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa.”
Roth learned the art from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi “as a young sceptic”, according to Chapman.
Strength in Stillness was published earlier on 6th February by S&S UK retailing at £12.99 in hardcover.
