Dean Chance has been promoted to managing director of the Carlton Publishing Group. He takes up the post vacated by Jim Greenhough last September.
Chance joined Carlton as deputy m.d. in November 2016, coming from Penguin Random House where he had been international sales director, m.d. of Penguin Germany, and president of Penguin Spain & Italy. He previously held posts within Dorling Kindersley.
Carlton’s chairman Jonathan Goodman said: “Dean has shown clear understanding of what makes Carlton tick and he has the leadership abilities to keep Carlton at the forefront of illustrated publishing”.
Turnover at Jonathan Goodman Publishing, parent company of Carlton Books and Andre Deutsch, rose by 13% to £16m for the year ending 31st December 2016 while operating profit was up 204% to £1.6m. But, speaking last September, outgoing m.d. Greenhough described 2017 as "a challenging year with a difficult market", though he described the company as "well-positioned for 2018".
