Ian Chapman, c.e.o. of Simon & Schuster UK, has been appointed chair of The Book Trade Charity as Jonathan Nowell steps down.
Nowell will remain as a board member and trustee. He said: “I am delighted to be able to hand over the chair to Ian, who will do an exceptional job and has the full support of the team and the trustees.”
Speaking of his appointment, Chapman said: “I have always greatly admired the work of The Book Trade Charity and its commitment to the people who work across publishing, bookselling and the allied trades. I am extremely grateful to Vic [Perry, chief executive] and the team for this opportunity to contribute to a cause in which I deeply believe and to which I am wholeheartedly committed. It is a wonderful organisation whose dedication and talent are there for all to see. Jonathan has been a wonderful chair and I simply hope to continue his good work. I urge colleagues to join us as we raise vital money to help people across the trade when they need it most.”
Vic Perry, chief executive, said demand for grants and housing is stronger than ever. “I’m excited to work with Ian to sustainably grow The Book Trade Charity. This year we have seen more company donors join our ranks which enables us to plan better and help more people. We urge all companies across the UK book trade to support us so that every eligible colleague has a safety net when life takes a turn.”
She said those wishing to support can donate here or email her at victoria@btbs.org or visit btbs.org.
Perry and Chapman said: "A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the work of The Book Trade Charity this year. Each and every donation has helped to provide life-changing support for colleagues and the charity is so grateful."
