Charlotte Mursell has been promoted to deputy publisher for Orion Fiction, which she joined from HarperCollins in 2020.
Working with Orion Fiction publisher Sam Eades, Mursell will spearhead the imprint’s identity and strategy, expanding her line management responsibilities to oversee the women’s fiction, crime & thriller and book club lists. Alongside her new responsibilities she will continue to acquire and publish brand and debut authors.
During her time at Orion, Mursell has published authors including Joanne Harris, Veronica Henry, Judy Murray and Kirsty Capes, author of Careless, which was longlisted for the Women’s Fiction Prize. Her list for 2024 includes The Fellowship of Puzzlemakers by Samuel Burr, acquired in an eight-way auction, and the launch of Santa Montefiore’s first novel with Orion, Shadows in the Moonlight.
Eades said: “Passionate, tenacious and strategic, it is a joy to work with Charlotte as she inspires us all to raise the bar of our publishing. She is a commercial fiction powerhouse as well as a hugely supportive colleague and ambassador for Orion. I’m excited to work with Charlotte as she steps into this new role and guides the team to continue our budget-busting growth in 2024 and beyond.”
Mursell said: “I’m excited to step up into this new role at Orion Fiction and to work closely with Sam in driving the growth of our exceptional list of bestselling authors. I’m so proud of everything our brilliant team has achieved over the past few years and I’m looking forward to what the future holds, taking our publishing to new heights and ensuring that the very best storytelling reaches the widest possible audience.”
