Once Upon A Wild Wood by Chris Riddell (Macmillan Children's Books) has been chosen by the Booksellers Association's Children’s Bookselling Group as its next Independent Booksellers Children’s Book of the Season.
Selected by a panel of indie booksellers from a range of new children’s titles, the Book of the Season aims to showcase indie bookshops’ expertise at promoting and selling children’s books.
Riddell’s first picture book for over a decade, Once Upon a Wild Wood is described as "a richly imagined story packed full of familiar fairy tale characters as you’ve never seen them before. Including Red Riding Hood, Thumbelina, Rapunzel, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, the three bears, the seven dwarfs and many more."
Around 88 indie bookshops are taking part in the autumn season and will be promoting Once Upon A Wild Wood for around four weeks from 24th September. The BA will be supporting the promotion of the book through social media and promotional materials including posters, stickers, bookmarks and other POS material. Booksellers will also be supporting the Book of the Season on social media.
BA m.d. Meryl Halls said: “It’s hugely exciting to be celebrating Chris Riddell’s first picture book for over 10 years this autumn.”
