BBC Two books programme "Between the Covers" has announced the first of six books for its upcoming autumn series. Cactus TV, which produces the programme, has revealed Chris Whitaker’s All the Colours of the Dark (Orion), as the first book for the series.
Amanda Ross, co-founder and c.e.o of Cactus TV, said: "My team and I all fell in love with this incredible book when we read the uncorrected proof from Orion back in February. As soon as I read it, I knew we would love to share it with our ‘Between the Covers’ book club viewers. Chris Whitaker’s writing spoke to my soul.
"There is so much to talk about and share with other readers, it’s a perfect choice for us because it really deserves the widest possible audience and has the broadest possible appeal. We think it should quite rightly get a lot of attention around publication, so we wanted our viewers to know it has already won our stamp of approval, so they feel confident to read and share it as soon as possible."
This autumn’s series of "Between the Covers" will be its eighth. Each episode, hosted by Sara Cox, features four celebrities who each bring one of their own favourite books to recommend to the audience.
Whitaker added: "I’m such a huge fan of ‘Between the Covers’ and haven’t stopped smiling since I found out the news. I’m beyond grateful to Amanda and the team for their passion, kindness and wonderful support of this book."
All the Colours of the Dark will be published in hardback in the UK on 16th July from Orion. The book was released in the US on 25th June and became a New York Times bestseller, landing in the third spot on the hardcover and second on the combined print & e-book charts.
The other five books will be announced later this summer, and Ross added: "My team and I are currently ferociously reading and whittling all the other amazing new books out there to settle on another five brilliant reads ahead of our announcement of our full list of six new book picks in September."
Series 8 of "Between the Covers" will be broadcasted at peak times from November 2024. Past series are available on BBC iPlayer.
