Christofere Fila is joining Lantana Publishing as associate publisher, departing Hodder Education where she was assistant commissioning editor.
In her new role at Lantana, Christofere will be responsible for developing her own editorial list, “bringing fresh and innovative ideas to the table, while also taking on key strategic and operational elements of the business", the award-winning children’s press said. “This dual focus will leverage her comprehensive skill set to enhance Lantana’s longstanding commitment to inclusivity in children’s publishing and build on its award-winning list.”
Lantana Publishing added: “Christofere brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in the publishing industry, making her a valuable addition to the Lantana team."
At Hodder, Fila worked across commissioning and publishing resources across a diverse range of subjects including science, humanities and English, "significantly enhancing" the UK and international lists.
Prior to her time at Hodder Education, Christofere was publishing co-ordinator at Amnesty International UK. She is also actively involved in the Black Editor and Agents group, where she mentors young professionals aspiring to careers in publishing.
Alice Curry, founder and c.e.o. of Lantana Publishing, said: “Christofere brings a wealth of experience across a range of genres and formats, with experience in both large commercial publishing and publishing-adjacent organsations such as Amnesty International. We’re thrilled she’s joining our team at a time of strategic growth for Lantana, and we’re excited to see Lantana evolve as a result of her appointment.”
Fila commented: “Ever since I came across Lantana seven years ago, I’ve been a huge admirer of their books. They have been very intentional from the start about creating content that engages positively with children, fuels their imagination and makes them feel good about themselves. I think Lantana’s values should be emulated in every publishing business and I am looking forward to helping them grow.”
Lantana Publishing is an award-winning children’s book publisher and social enterprise based in Oxford with a mission to publish inclusive books by authors from underrepresented groups and from around the world.
