Orion has announced Anne Clarke will join its science fiction and fantasy (SFF) imprint Gollancz as publisher from her current role at Orbit US.
Clarke is currently deputy publisher at Orbit US where she has overseen editorial, marketing & publicity and design teams for the past five years. Among her successes was masterminding the publication of M R Carey’s The Girl With All The Gifts. Before that, she was editorial director of Orbit UK, at Little, Brown UK and an editor at Hodder.
She will report to Katie Espiner, managing director of Orion, in her new London role.
In another move, Gollancz publishing director Gillian Redfearn is being promoted to deputy publisher. Redfearn will focus on brand author publishing and acquiring a new generation of bestsellers to add to her list, which includes Ben Aaronovitch, Joe Abercrombie, Joanne M Harris, Garth Nix, Al Reynolds and Patrick Rothfuss.
Clarke said: “I’m very excited to start this new chapter in my life and I can’t think of a better place to return to in London than the mighty Gollancz. I’ve had a great time at Orbit, and of course I’ll miss my lovely authors, and all my friends and colleagues in New York, but I’m thrilled to be staying with Hachette and joining Gollancz and Orion for the next adventure.”
Espiner added: “I am absolutely thrilled that we have persuaded Anne to come back to the UK. She is enormously experienced, liked and respected in the SFF and wider publishing communities and I know that Gollancz will continue to go from strength to strength under her leadership. I am also delighted to be promoting Gillian to deputy publisher. She publishes a who’s who of bestselling talent and she and Anne will create a formidable partnership.”
