In a publishing first, Cornerstone will promote 23rd Midnight by James Patterson – published on 3rd March 2023 – on Netflix.
The thriller, from Patterson’s bestselling Women’s Murder Club series, follows detective Lindsay Boxer as she tries to discover who is re-creating serial killer Evan Burke’s most infamous crimes. The advertisements will run for 10 days.
Netflix’s ad model launched in November 2022, supplying customers with a cheaper monthly subscription rather than a basic tier subscription. Netflix subscribers who sign up for the "Basic with Ads" package are served approximately four to five adverts per hour. Netflix’s UK audience almost matches terrestrial figures, making the potential reach of advertising on Netflix a premium ad environment, Cornerstone said.
According to a survey by Penguin Random House, 76% of UK adults have heard of Patterson, with 40% having read a novel by him, while his books have sold more than 400 million copies worldwide. This year, he was named as the most borrowed adult author from UK libraries for the 14th year running. With Netflix’s viewership made up of 75% under 49s and 42% under 34s, Cornerstone said the new ad agreement will ensure that his titles continue to reach an “entertainment-seeking” younger audience.
