A new Scottish literary magazine from Golden Hare Books manager Julie Danskin and writer Heather Parry has sailed past its Kickstarter target.
The pair started an online crowdfunder last month to raise £10,000 towards the biannual Extra Teeth. Launching in November, it will feature short stories and essays, with a guest illustrator for each issue and an emphasis on marginalised voice and emerging talent.
After a nerve-racking wait, the Kickstarter eventually amassed 355 backers and beat its target by £844.
Work can now begin on the first edition, which will be illustrated by Maria Stoian, with writers including Janice Galloway, Kirsty Logan, Martin MacInnes and Dave Coates.
Danskin, whose Edinburgh store won the 2019 Nibbie for Independent Bookshop of the Year, told The Bookseller: "Since we launched the crowdfunding campaign we've been absolutely overwhelmed with support from Scotland, the rest of the UK and even beyond - not only Kickstarter support, but shops wanting to stock the magazine, writers and illustrators wanting to contribute and readers all over the world.
“Now the anxiety-inducing month is over, we're excited to edit our contributors' pieces, work with our designer Esther Clayton and our illustrator Maria Stoian to get the magazine together, print on our beloved thick paper stock, and finally, in November, to get Extra Teeth into the hands of our readers."
