The Darley Anderson Children’s Book Agency (DACBA) has appointed Kristina Egan as children’s rights manager, handling all international rights sales.
Children’s book rights have until now been handled by the Darley Anderson Literary Agency rights team, but will now move in house as the scope of the list grows.
Egan was previously rights agent at the Darley Anderson Literary Agency, where she has worked since 2015. She has represented both DA agencies’ clients across territories including Spain, Brazil, Poland, Portugal, Greece, Turkey and eastern Europe.
With Egan’s departure, there have also been promotions and new hires in the Darley Anderson Literary Agency rights department. Georgia Fuller has been promoted to rights manager, and Kira Walker has been taken on as rights assistant. The team will also shortly be joined by Salma Zarugh as junior rights agent, who will be working directly in Turkey and the Arabic-speaking world as well as with co-agents in Greece, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia among others.
Egan said: “I’m excited to take this step up as DACBA rights manager and work even more closely with the phenomenal DACBA team. I’ve been so lucky to learn from the best in the business at Darley Anderson and can’t thank Darley, Clare and Mary [Darby, head of rights] enough for this opportunity to focus on growing the careers of our incredible Children’s book authors in all international markets.”
Darby said: “The growth in the children’s book agency has been phenomenal and wonderful to see. This is a very dynamic, talented team with expert focus on seeking out and representing commercial writers and illustrators – and there couldn’t be a better fit than Kristina to handle the rights globally. Kristina has been a valued and respected member of the DA rights team for six years now, and I’m thrilled that she will now bring her knowledge and expertise to the children’s list exclusively. This restructure opens up the opportunity for Georgia Fuller to step into rights manager role at the DA Agency. Another hugely deserved promotion. It’s a very exciting time."
Clare Wallace, director, said: “It has been such a joy and a privilege to witness the Darley Anderson Children’s Book Agency truly take flight and now the time has come to appoint our own children’s rights manager. Kristina has always approached the children’s list dynamically – with passion, ambition and insight – she is absolutely the perfect person to step into this role and I’m just delighted she is joining our team.”
Darley Anderson added: “As the founder of the DA Children’s Agency my ambition has always been for it to become internationally recognised as the best in the business. Now, the awesomely talented team at the agency, who are realising this ambition, have been joined by Kristina, a brilliant rights agent who is passionate about children’s books.”
