The Darley Anderson Children’s Book Agency is launching a new paid internship scheme paying the London Living Wage. The role will offer an entry-level introduction to primary agenting and rights sales in the children’s book market.
Interns will be given an understanding of how a busy agency works and gain experience across a varied list. They will have the chance to get involved with preparations for major book fairs, as well as getting an insight into the submission and auction processes and an introduction into contract negotiation and client management.
The internship will be a three-month long placement and does not require a university degree or any previous experience in publishing.
Literary agent Lydia Silver said: “We are very happy to be able to offer a paid internship at our fast-growing agency, and are excited to discover new agenting talent via our scheme. I got into publishing via PRH’s paid summer internship, and we’re delighted to now be able to offer an opportunity of our own.
"Publishing is desperately in need of new voices, and we hope that our interns will go on to bring their voices and ideas to bright publishing careers.”
The Darley Anderson Children’s Book Agency has grown rapidly in the last three years, and is now a five-strong team headed up by m.d. Clare Wallace. Their clients include authors such as A M Howell, Beth Reekles and Rachel Morrisroe, as well as debut writers Laura Noakes, Maria Motunrayo Adebisi and Nathanael Lessore.
Applications are to be submitted by the 17th September for the first placement, with future placement dates to be announced closer to the time. Those interested in applying should email a cover letter and c.v. to lydia@darleyanderson.com with the subject line "DACBA Internship”.
