David Higham Associates (DHA) has announced it will host its third open day for under-represented writers in January 2020.
Applications for the 30th January event, for writers of adult fiction, open today (22nd July) and close on 16th September. Unagented LGBT+ and BAME writers, along with those from cultural or religious minorities, working-class backgrounds and people with disabilities are all encouraged to apply.
People can apply through the DHA website with the first three chapters of their work, a synopsis and completed application form.
Ten chosen writers will be invited to DHA’s offices to meet industry experts, attend talks with editors, agents and authors and receive tailored feedback on their work. All travel expenses will be reimbursed. DHA have also announced that in the summer of 2020, they will run another adult fiction open day, which will be held outside London.
DHA Agent and director Veronique Baxter said: “At David Higham Associates we believe it is really important to address the fact that the publishing industry is London-centric. By holding this open day outside of London we hope that this will encourage more under-represented writers living throughout the UK to apply.”
Publishers, booksellers, libraries and creative spaces outside London who want to get involved can contact openday@davidhigham.co.uk. The agency's last open day for under-represented writers put the spotlight on children's and YA fiction.
