David Inman, who manages Quarto's distribution services and international publishing partnerships, is leaving the company at the end of February.
Inman is currently managing director of Quarto Partners and is a member of the senior management team. He re-joined Quarto in 2013 as managing director of Quarto Publishing Group UK and previously was Quarto’s UK sales and marketing director from 2009-2011, with additional responsibility for the US publishers’ foreign language co-edition business.
While m.d. of Quarto Publishing Group UK, he hired Rachel Williams and Jenny Broom, who took over Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and launched Wide Eyed Editions, both of which according to Quarto contributed "significantly" to Quarto’s growth in Children’s Publishing globally. He also appointed Richard Green to transform Aurum Press from a UK-focussed, trade, black and white publisher into an international illustrated publisher.
Internationally, he was responsible for consolidating Quarto’s distribution arrangements in Australia and New Zealand with Allen and Unwin. In his current role, he helped negotiate Quarto's distribution agreements In Spain, Latin America and North America for Quarto’s Spanish language imprint, Quarto Iberoamericana.
Quarto said it remains committed to increasing its distribution services with third party publishers and to developing further publishing partnerships around the world.
Marcus Leaver, chief executive, commented: "David has made an invaluable contribution to Quarto in the last few years and I am grateful that he came back to Quarto at a difficult time, after I had just been appointed c.e.o. He did an excellent job sorting out our UK trade businesses and opening up new opportunities, particularly in Children’s Publishing. On behalf of all of us across the Group, I want to thank David for his support and wish him the very best."
Inman said: "The last four years have been one of the most challenging and enjoyable chapters in my publishing career. I would like to pay tribute, in particular, to the fantastic team who supported me at Quarto Publishing Group UK. I will greatly miss all my Quarto colleagues in every part of the business and on both sides of the Atlantic."
Quarto earlier this week issued a trading update reporting "strong" holiday trading and the expectation profits will be in line with its November 2017 projections. Quarto's annual 2017 results are released in March.
