Becca Day will take up the newly created role of head of marketing and membership at Jericho Writers, in part replacing Anna Burtt’s role as head of events.
Day joined Jericho Writers as a marketing manager earlier this year with a background in digital-focused business and is an author of three books published by Embla Books.
The change sees the start of a renewed focus at Jericho Writers on membership, building on the programme of events that Burtt started and creating new opportunities for participants to learn from authors and publishing industry professionals internationally.
Day will report to Sophie Flynn who was promoted to m.d. for Jericho Writers earlier this year. Burtt leaves the company to embark on new non-publishing adventures after running Jericho Writers’ events for four years.
Burtt said: “It’s been a wonderful four years working with Jericho Writers. I’m immensely proud to have worked for a company I really believe in. From helping to create the Summer Festival of Writing in 2020 – a lifeline for many writers during the pandemic – to directing the York and London Festival of Writing and running an all-year round online events programme for members, it has been a joy. I’ll be cheering on all our members from the sidelines and can’t wait to see it go from strength to strength under Sophie’s direction.”
Day commented: “Anna has left Jericho Writers in such a strong position, having created hundreds of hours of masterclasses for our members. I’m so excited to continue building on that legacy."
She added: "As an author myself, I’ve been exactly where our members are – soaking up as much information as possible to boost chances of publication – and that empathy will fuel everything I do as head of membership. After working at the London Festival of Writing this year under Anna’s expert leadership, I’m particularly excited to take on planning the 2024 festival.”
Flynn paid tribute to Burtt: “While we’re incredibly sad to see Anna move on to pastures new, it has opened up an exciting chapter for Becca who I know will do a fantastic job not only running our in-person and online events, creating a wonderful experience for our members but overseeing the marketing strategy of the company. As part of these changes, we’re looking to further build on our roster of authors to work with, so we’d love to hear from anyone interested.”
Jericho Writers has asked to hear from potential speakers, tutors, mentors and editors. Writers, publishers and publicists who are interested in working with Jericho Writers can submit their pitches here. Jericho Writers is particularly interested in receiving proposals from underrepresented writers.
Burtt will continue releasing her monthly radio show and podcast for independent Brighton station Radio Reverb and her role as trustee for New Writing South remotely and will also be working on her own writing projects.
