Del Rey UK, Cornerstone's science fiction and fantasy imprint, will publish The World of Critical Role, a "definitive guide" to the history of the online web series "Critical Role", written by cast of the series and author Liz Marsham.
Del Rey acquired UK & Commonwealth rights from sister company Del Rey US. The title will have a global English language publication date of 22nd October 2020.
"Critical Role" is an American web series in which a group of professional voice actors play Dungeons and Dragons on YouTube each week. The World of Critical Role will take fans behind the scenes of the series with full-colour photography, never-before-seen illustrations and an introduction written by the "Critical Role" cast. The book will focus on two "Critical Role" campaigns (a connected series of fantasy adventures), Vox Machina and the Mighty Nein.
Marsham commented: "This is not just the who, what, and where of 'Critical Role': we dive into the how and the why, from character creation to item design, from the geography of a dungeon to the psychology of a split-second decision. We examine and celebrate the cast, the world of Exandria, the Critters, and even storytelling in general, all accompanied by gorgeous art and photography. I can’t wait for the UK community to see it."
Sam Bradbury, senior editor at Del Rey said: "I’m thrilled to be publishing this deep dive into the phenomenon that is 'Critical Role' in the UK. An indispensable guide to 'Critical Role', this book is perfect for both long-time fans, and those only just beginning to dip their toes into the worlds created by this incredibly talented team."
