"Derry Girls" actor Nicola Coughlan will read the unabridged audiobook of Michelle Gallen‚Äôs début novel Big Girl, Small Town.
Coughlan, who plays Clare Devlin in the Northern Irish sitcom, makes her audiobook narrator début reading the "darkly comic" book, which has been described as "Milkman meets "Derry Girls" and explores the legacy of The Troubles on a deeply divided community in the Irish Borderlands.
A focus title for John Murray, it is collaborating with BBC Sounds to adapt the novel for its Radio Readings, and an "ambitious" publicity and marketing campaign is under way for the novel which publishes on 20th February in hardback, audiobook and e-book.
Coughlan said: "I was so pleased to be asked to narrate the audiobook of Big Girl, Small Town. Michelle’s writing gripped me from the moment I started reading the book and I’ve really enjoyed bringing it to life in the studio."
Ellie Wheeldon, audio and digital editor, said: "When it came to casting the audiobook the first person who sprang to mind was Nicola. Her narration perfectly captures the voices of not only Majella, but the whole community of characters in Big Girl, Small Town, and we can’t wait for listeners to fall in love with it as much as we have."
