Dialogue Books has released new branding for the division, including the new commercial imprint Renegade Books, as well as announcing a Discover Dialogue Roadshow.
Senior designer Charlotte Stroomer led the rebrand, designing the Renegade logo, while commissioning designer Dominic Hands created the umbrella identity and style guide to ensure consistent use across social media assets and printed material.
Publisher for Renegade Books Christina Demosthenous said: “For the Renegade branding, we wanted a colophon that encapsulates our rebellious and rule-breaking spirit, and our commitment to inclusivity. Renegade is a radical commercial imprint, with an ambitious plan to reach a wide variety of readers.
“As such, it was important that the design felt timeless yet contemporary, stylish yet not exclusive. We wanted the branding to take inspiration from non-publishing brands, in the hope of us reaching new audiences. Charlotte couldn’t have brought this vision to life more perfectly, and I’m so excited to see the logo out in the world, in the hands of readers."
Art director, Nico Taylor said: “After fruitful and collaborative conversations with the team about the division and their respective imprint missions we were clear on how distinct each aspect of the identity had to be. It had to be unique, have power and be adaptable. It started with a revised logo for the literary imprint, Dialogue Books, taking the original mark and making it bolder and more impactful; something new for Renegade to convey the energy of their commissioning and to tie in with their ‘books that break rules’ line; and a stylish umbrella identity for the division to house it all.
“The process was constantly collaborative with the Dialogue Division mission at its heart: innovation, inclusion, inspiration.”
As part of the unveiling of the new branding the Dialogue team are also embarking on a two day Discover Dialogue Roadshow visiting bookshops, libraries, reading groups and agents across the UK. The teams will be visiting the Hachette national offices including Bristol, Manchester, Sheffield, Newcastle, as well as hosting a drinks reception for Scottish agents and creative organisations at the Edinburgh offices.
Managing director Sharmaine Lovegrove said: “This month marks six months into our new division and six years as Dialogue Books becoming an imprint and my pride in where we are as a business is immense. We’ve had an incredible half a year with a huge amount of change, growth and ambition across the books, imprints, and team and we are still at the earliest and hardest part of the journey – the build.
“It’s been a huge pleasure to work with our talented and visionary team Emily Moran, Charlotte Stroomer, Nico Taylor and Christina Demosthenous to create a brand-new look that corresponds with the uniqueness of each entity. There is so much to adore about our branding and merch but its distinctive, bold, timeless, modern qualities and its ability to speak to people across society and draw them into our books at the core of its success.
“The ‘Discover Dialogue Roadshow’ is a continuation of past Dialogue outreach and the team and I are excited to get back on the road after so long. Masterminded by Millie Seaward we’ll be reconnecting with bookshops, booksellers, libraries as well as discovering what’s new in each location. It’s such a bonus to be connecting with our national offices on this tour. Millie has created a thoughtful and celebratory week and it feels important to mark this milestone as we invite more people to join the Dialogue community.”
