DK Life is launching a new narrative non-fiction list in spring 2023 featuring debut titles from “some of the country’s most radical thinkers”, such as trans activist Kenny Ethan Jones and journalist Lucy Webster.
The titles launching the new list have been acquired by DK Life’s acquisitions editor Marleigh Price, who joined the publisher in October 2021.
Advocate and writer Jones will launch his first book on 23rd March 2023, entitled Dear Cis(gender) People: A Guide to Allyship and Empathy.
The publisher describes it as “an extensively researched, deeply personal and thought-provoking book that blends memoir and interviews with prominent members of the trans and non-binary community, as well as practical tips and a call-to-arms to empower cisgender people to become better allies”.
Author and blogger Uju Asika is writing Raising Boys Who Do Better: A Hopeful Guide for a New Generation, “an impactful and timely guide to raising happy, healthy boys who challenge the status quo and can grow up to be compassionate and resilient men in the age of #MeToo and Black Lives Matter” for publication on 23rd June 2023. The book features rigorous research, expert interviews and Asika’s own anecdotal experiences as a mother and step-mother to sons.
Also coming in 2023 is what the publisher describes as “a powerful, eye-opening memoir about the experience of navigating life as a disabled woman”, from journalist Lucy Webster.
The View from Down Here reveals her reckoning with the intersection of sexism and ableism, as she uncovers the hidden realities of being a disabled woman today.
Price said: “I’m delighted to be launching a narrative list at DK Life and I’m so proud of this raft of titles which will amplify those voices and topics that have historically been underserved by the publishing industry.
“It’s particularly exciting to be publishing debut books by authors who are at the very forefront of thinking and debate around important societal issues we’re all wrestling with today – it’s a real indication of the scope, ambition and future direction of DK Life.”
