Indie publisher The Do Book Company has concluded a hybrid publishing and distribution deal with Chronicle Books in San Francisco.
Founder and publisher Miranda West has licensed exclusive North American rights (and non-exclusive ROW) for 10 titles across the publisher's Do Books series to Chronicle publisher Christine Carswell for an undisclosed sum. Previously Do Books were distributed in the USA by Ingram.
The Chronicle editions will retain the Do Books branding, featuring original cover artwork by US artist and designer James Victore. Chronicle will launch the series in Spring 2018 with the first four books: Do Fly, Do Disrupt, Do Story and Do Grow.
Foreign language editions are also forthcoming in 2018 from Hoffman und Campe in Germany and Pyramyd Editions in France. These editions will also feature the same branding and cover artwork.
West said: "We’re thrilled to be embarking on this major new partnership with Chronicle Books. We regard them as one of the most established and innovative independent publishing houses in the world, so to have our books as part of that offering - and to be working directly with such a talented team of people - is hugely exciting. Ultimately, it’s about getting these small books into the hands of those people who are going to find them genuinely useful and inspiring - and we have every confidence that Chronicle will achieve this and more."
Carswell said: "What an exciting opportunity it is – for Chronicle Books and our customers – to introduce DO’s smart, accessible publishing to even more readers. So informative and inspiring, these are distinctively contemporary books that will make alluring statements in-store and enhance the offerings of the diverse range of accounts Chronicle is uniquely positioned to reach – as well as enhance the perspectives of everyone who sits down with one of these enriching little books in their hands.’
At the end of 2017, the Do Book Company launched its audiobook offering with a selected number of titles from the ‘Smart Working’ range.
