Hodder & Stoughton is publishing a book from songwriter, musician, and country legend Dolly Parton, exploring her life and career through 175 of her best-loved songs.
Due to publish in hardback on 17th November, Dolly Parton’s Songteller: My Life in Lyrics will be a visual memoir and annotated songbook, enabling readers to discover the personal stories behind her lyrics – in her own words – as well as new photographs and memorabilia. Nashville-based music journalist Robert K Oermann, considered the "unofficial historian of Nashville’s musical heritage", will also work on the book.
Hodder & Stoughton non-fiction publisher Briony Gowlett acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Erika Bradfield, international sales and subsidiary rights director for Chronicle Books.
Parton said: "I’m so thrilled to be collaborating with Hodder & Stoughton on Songteller. A songteller is what I am, and this is my first-ever book of lyrics. So, I’ve revisited my memories and opened up my archives to share the stories and treasures behind them in a way I never have before. It’s going to be a beautiful book!"
Gowlett said: "Dolly Parton is an iconic star who unites so many of us with her music and larger-than-life personality – it is a dream come true to publish this landmark book celebrating her life and career."
Parton has lately experienced a resurgence in mainstream media, following WNYC’s nine-part podcast series "Dolly Parton’s America" and, showing on Netflix, the anthology "Heartstrings", documentary "Here I Am" and Parton-inspired film "Dumplin'".
