Tor UK, Pan Macmillan’s speculative fiction imprint, has hired publishing consultant Holly Domney, the founder of Domney Books. Domney has joined the Tor team while they recruit for an additional editorial director.
Travis Baldree, Genevieve Cogman and Arkady Martine are three of Tor UK’s authors who will receive Domney’s dedicated care, and she’ll be helping progress “many other titles” towards publication.
This year, Tor UK is publishing Cassandra Clare’s first adult fantasy, Sword Catcher, as well as books by Olivie Blake, Jennifer Armentrout, TJ Klune, Christopher Paolini and Adrian Tchaikovsky.
Tor’s publisher Bella Pagan said: “Tor succeeds when our authors succeed, and author care is key to that success. Domney Books will help Tor to maintain our very high standards of author support during a period of rapid growth.
“Holly Domney’s project management experience and genre knowledge will be incredibly valuable. She’s also an extremely effective cheerleader for authors, supporting them from acquisition right up to publication.”
Domney added: “Do I want to work with Tor? Yes please! Within both the science fiction and fantasy genre and at Pan Macmillan, Tor is really standing out.
"Olivie Blake’s bestselling The Atlas Six – I bought the holographic foiled special edition – and Freya Marske’s A Marvellous Light were such engaging recent reads for me too. Getting to work in the office with the people that brought such thrilling books to publication is an opportunity not to be missed.”
Holly Domney launched consultancy Domney Books a year ago, with Head of Zeus (Bloomsbury) and Joffe Books as the first publishing house clients. The business has also directly supported numerous published and first-time authors across a range of commercial fiction genres, honing their manuscripts, helping them to secure agents and getting their novels published.
