Former Head of Zeus (HoZ) and Canongate staffer Holly Domney has launched a new pre-publication business, with HoZ and Joffe Books already on board.
Domney Books prepares authors for publication as well as their manuscripts. In addition to the publishing house clients secured to date, the business is supporting 10 authors directly at launch. These include Sunday Times bestselling crime author David Mark and debut romance self-publisher Jamie Taylor. Eight additional UK and US action, adventure, thriller, science fiction and fantasy authors are also working with Domney in their quest to publish.
As well as offering editorial services such as structural editing and copywriting, Domney Books describes itself as “a cheerleader, adviser and promoter of authors” providing consultancy, coaching, care and creative services. It says such services help writers to complete their manuscript, prepare them for submitting to agents and publishing houses, or to self-publish their novels.
Domney said: “Too often the people element of publishing is forgotten. We don’t just deal in manuscripts. We’re dealing with masses of creative, emotional and intellectual energy that authors have invested in their stories. As well as helping to make manuscripts marketable Domney Books will help authors overcome their fears – fears of rejection, of promotion, and even of publication itself.
“Working on manuscripts destined for publication is a true privilege, especially when already selected by excellent publishing houses such as Head of Zeus and Joffe.”
Laura Palmer, Head of Zeus’ fiction publishing director, said: “It’s so enjoyable working with Holly at Domney Books. Professional and passionate, she not only champions her authors but goes above and beyond for them and their books.”
