Pan Macmillan has a mass of activity planned to support Independent Bookshop Week (IBW). Julia Donaldson is promoting Julia Donaldson’s Book of Names and John Patrick Green, creator of the comic book series InvestiGators, is visiting the UK and Ireland for the first time.
Green’s UK tour includes 14 events and signings organised by nine independent bookshops, including Mr B’s in Bath, Griffin Books in Penarth and Mostly Books in Abingdon, together with a virtual multi-school event hosted by Village Books in Dulwich.
On the eve of IBW, Friday 16th June, Green did a schools event with Village Books and an after-school signing and comic club event with The Alligator’s Mouth in Richmond, and on Saturday 17th June, he was with Regency Bookshop in Surbiton as part of Surbiton Lit Fest. He spent a day with Mostly Books doing school visits and an in-store signing after school on Monday 19th June, and will be doing school events in Hertfordshire with Book Nook in Ware and Our Bookshop in Tring on Tuesday 20th June.
A virtual multi-school event, part of Macmillan’s Virtually Together series, was hosted by Village Books with partner shops ebb & flo in Chorley, Wallingford Bookshop, The Hayling Island Bookshop and Red Lion Books in Colchester. It was offered to school customers as well as teachers and schools who are keen champions of the series, as well as the children of Macmillan staff members.
Exclusive IBW editions of My Heart was a Tree by Michael Morpurgo and Yuval Zommer, The Square of Sevens by Laura Shepherd-Robinson and Stone Blind by Natalie Haynes are also available. For adult readers, the publisher is offering an exclusive Best of Regional Crime sampler, including, among others, Lin Anderson’s Rhona MacLeod series, Ann Cleeves’ Two Rivers series and Peter James’ Roy Grace series, as well as a special IBW promotion of Macmillan Collectors’ Library.
