Doubleday is publishing a clothbound edition of Bonnie Garmus’ global bestseller Lessons in Chemistry backed by a marketing and publicity campaign, including an event for Cambridge Children’s Hospital.
The new edition will be published next Thursday (29th February), retailing at £20 and aimed at “new readers, established fans and for collectors alike”, Doubleday said.
The publisher added: “To celebrate the release, a sustained marketing and publicity campaign will include creative influencer outreach and advertising from publication and a series of high-profile events including fundraising partnerships with the Reading Agency and the Cambridge Children’s Hospital, reflecting the vision and important themes of the novel.”
The events will be held on 7th March at Lady Mitchell Hall in Cambridge and on 3rd April at the Emmanuel Centre, London.
Jane Lawson, deputy publisher at Doubleday, said: “Lessons in Chemistry has reached many millions of readers with its inspiring message of self-determination, and this new edition is designed to celebrate that reach while actively seeking new readers who might have believed the book was just for women, or only for scientists, or maybe for historical fiction fans. The truth is, this book is for anyone who has ever felt underestimated, unseen, dismissed or frustrated by society’s irrational rules."
She added: “This new, limited edition, skilfully created by head of Doubleday design Beci Kelly, is destined to be a collector’s item. With it, we believe new audiences will soon see why so many keep talking about this phenomenal book.”
Author Bonnie Garmus said: “As an author, there is very little that can top the feeling you get when you learn your book has been selected for Penguin’s storied clothbound edition collection.”
Lessons in Chemistry spent more than two years in the Sunday Times bestseller list and has won numerous awards since publication in April 2022. It has also been adapted for Apple TV.
