Kris Doyle is joining Simon & Schuster UK as deputy publishing director for S&S Non-fiction.
He will join on 9th January 2023, reporting to Holly Harris, publishing director for Adult Non-fiction.
Doyle previously worked at Picador for 12 years, where he was editorial director. He left in August 2021 “to pursue personal goals in other fields”. His authors included Jon Ronson, The Secret Barrister, Darren McGarvey, Amelia Abraham, Jeffrey Boakye and Jenny Kleeman.
In his new role at S&S he will acquire high-quality, serious non-fiction for the S&S imprint and work closely with the publishing director and managing director to oversee the strategy for the list. Key S&S authors include Professor Alice Roberts, Sir Simon Schama, Bill Browder, John Nichol and Walter Isaacson.
Harris said: “Kris is a superb editor with an excellent reputation and we’re so thrilled he’s joining us. S&S is going from strength to strength and I really look forward to working with him and seeing what he brings to the list.”
Doyle added: “After a year away, I’m delighted to be returning to publishing and to things I love: working with writers, collaborating and connecting with all the talented people in the trade, the incomparable exhilaration of acquiring great books and sharing them with readers.
“I’m excited about joining the brilliant team at S&S; the strength of their recent publishing is undeniable and their dynamism was very alluring. My goal is to publish first-rate non-fiction (across a broad range of subjects and genres, by writers from anywhere and any background) that can win prizes and appeal widely in the UK and international markets – I can’t wait to get started!”
