Digital imprint Bookouture has signed a dystopian YA trilogy from short story author Ceri A Lowe.
Bookouture founder Oliver Rhodes acquired world rights in English language and translation from the author. Translation rights will be handled by Lorella Belli at LBLA.
Rhodes described Lowe as "a major British talent" and said of the signing: “I was captivated from the first chapter, and am already eagerly waiting for book two—which for me is a fantastic sign. Publishing digitally allows us to get Ceri’s debut into market in the first half of 2014, whilst the market for dystopian stories is still hot.”
The series is set in a post-apocalyptic London, where inhabitants are routinely frozen until they are needed by ‘The Industry’.
Lowe commented: “Oliver’s creative feel for the trilogy is exactly where it needs to be and I very excited to be working with a team that are so committed to the story and characters.”
Bookouture was founded by Rhodes, who was previously marketing controller at Harlequin UK and a Bookseller Rising Star in 2012. The boutique publishing start-up specialises in commercial women's fiction and also offers print-on-demand.
