Amazon.co.uk has brought in a 'Buy for others' option on the detail page for Kindle books to allow people to gift e-books. The feature was previously available in the US but not the UK.
When the e-book is acquired, a redemption link will be sent to the email address of the intended recipient, or can be shared directly with the recipient by the present-giver. The online retailer said the step would make "last-minute Christmas shopping even easier".
Amazon began its 99p 12 Days of Kindle promotion on Friday 21st December, and is including titles such Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman (HarperCollins), Close to Home by Cara Hunter (Penguin), Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman (Bloomsbury) and The Man I Think I Know by Mike Gayle (Hodder & Stoughton). E-books can be read on any tablet or smartphone via the Kindle app.
