Evangeline Stanford is joining Viking Non-Fiction as commissioning editor, from her position as editor at Ebury.
Stanford will start on 27th August, reporting to Daniel Crewe, publishing director of Viking Non-Fiction, and will acquire female voices in areas including memoir, current affairs, sport and history, and nature writing.
Currently editor in the Self Hub at Ebury, Stanford has worked on books including Hannah Pick-Goslar’s international bestseller My Friend Anne Frank, Shaparak Khorsandi’s Scatter Brain, international bestselling psychiatrist Anders Hansen’s The Happiness Cure, and Sunday Times bestselling author Thomas Erikson’s series that includes Surrounded By Idiots.
Her acquisitions include pre-empting the Korean bestseller I Decided To Live As Me, and proactively commissioning Thomas Erikson’s latest title Surrounded by Liars and other yet-to-be-announced lead titles for 2025.
Stanford previously worked at Bloomsbury as editor on the Wildlife list, and worked on books including The Flow by Amy-Jane Beer, which last year won the Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing.
Crewe said: “We were impressed with the dynamism and detail in Evangeline’s publishing, her market knowledge and her proactiveness – and she had lots of excellent, distinctive ideas for books that we would love to publish. Like the whole Viking team, she lives and breathes the areas she focuses on, and we’re all delighted she’ll be joining us.”
Stanford said: “I’ve long admired Viking’s list of trailblazing authors and I’m honoured to be joining at a time of celebration and growth. It’s been a joy to work with many talented authors and colleagues at Ebury, but I am delighted to be taking this next step and look forward to building my list at Viking.”
Stanford’s email will continue to be estanford@penguinrandomhouse.co.uk.
