Egmont has snapped up a picture book about a "David Bowie-esque rhinocorn" by Matt Carr.
Publishing director Melissa Fairley acquired world rights in all languages for Rhinocorn Rules! from Stephanie Thwaites at Curtis Brown. Rhinocorn Rules! will publish in paperback February 2020, for age 3+.
"Ron the Rhinocorn doesn’t like to live by the other rhino rules – the other rhinos are grumpy, solitary and they will charge at anything that gets in their way. But not Ron. Ron likes music, art and only wants to have fun. He is determined to live his best life and not conform to the herd," said Egmont. "When Ron paints himself into a bright unicorn, all of the other animals think he’s the coolest animal ever, but his rhino family are less impressed. Will they learn to embrace Ron for who he really is? Rhinocorn Rules! is guaranteed to capture the hearts of young readers and parents who are fans of Supertato, Julian is a Mermaid and Superbat."
Fairley said: “Matt is master of the commercial hook but this wonderful picture book is so much more than just that. It’s about being true to yourself and living your best life. It’s also extremely funny and his vibrant artwork makes every page pop!”
Carr added: “I’m very excited to let Ron the Rhinocorn loose in the world! It’s been nice to get him out of my head and onto paper as he’d been taking up a lot of room! Hopefully everyone will love him as much as I do.”
