Elly Griffiths, the writer of The Midnight Hour (Quercus) and The Last Remains (Quercus), has won Author of the Year at the BA Conference Awards.
The awards honour key figures in the book industry and the work they do to support UK bookshops. The winners were selected by 489 booksellers from across the country.
The Sophie Christopher Award for Publicist of the Year went to Ella Patel, head of fiction publicity at Quercus, while the John Faiers Rep of the Year Award, named in memory of John Faiers in 2022, was given to Jeff Jamieson at Bonnier.
“We are thrilled to honour a wonderful rep, publicist and author at the BA Conference Awards, recognising their deep understanding of and passion for our industry, bookshops and booksellers, and showing our huge appreciation of all that they do,” said Meryl Halls, managing director at the Booksellers Association. “Our aim for the awards is that they will encourage the wider industry to acknowledge the crucial role bookshops play in promoting and selling books, connecting authors and readers, and contributing to a healthy publishing ecosystem.”
Booksellers from across the UK and Ireland gathered at the BA Conference and Gardners Trade Show to discuss the issues impacting bookshops on 22nd and 23rd September 2024 at Leonardo Hotel in Hinckley Island in Leicestershire.
