The Booksellers Association has named Abi Elphinstone’s “captivating” story The Snow Dragon as its book of the month for November.
The BA Children’s Bookselling Group and Independent bookshops around the UK and Ireland will promote the picturebook, published by Simon & Schuster, throughout the month in-store and on social media. In addition, Elphinstone and illustrator Fiona Woodcock will take part in a series of bookshop events.
Elphinstone said: “Independent booksellers know the power of stories and work with warrior-like passion and tenacity to send them out into the world and I couldn’t be more thrilled to learn that my and Fiona Woodcock’s picture book, The Snow Dragon, is their Book Of The Month for November. I, like so many authors, owe a great deal to our wonderful independent bookshops.”
Woodcock added: “I’m delighted to that The Snow Dragon has been chosen to be Book of the Month. Independent bookshops are incredible places, each one unique and full of character, run by passionate and knowledgeable people. This is why it means so much that they have chosen to shine a light on The Snow Dragon.”
The BA children’s book of the month is chosen by a panel of independent booksellers from a range of new children’s titles, and aims to demonstrate independent bookshops’ expertise at promoting and selling children’s books.
BA head of campaigns Emma Bradshaw said: “Brought to life by Fiona Woodcock’s beautiful illustrations, The Snow Dragon is a captivating story, full of magic and adventure. We are so delighted that the panel has selected Abi Elphinstone’s wonderful story as Children’s Book of the Month for November”
