Emerald Publishing has been listed as one of the Times’ Top 50 Employers for Gender Equality 2024.
The list recognises employers taking "demonstrable" action to create gender equality in their workplace. Business in the Community has been running the Times Top 50 list for over a decade as part of their gender equality work.
C.e.o Vicky Williams said that while the company "hold both leadership and each other to account", there is still "a way to go, particularly when it comes to our gender pay gap. But we’re committed to action, and we don’t accept the status quo".
She continued: “Our drive to create change is organisational activism in its truest form and I’m privileged to work every day with a team that has such agency and purpose. Being recognised as a Times Top 50 employer for gender equality is affirmation of years of work and it shows how far we’ve come as a small, medium-sized business. This recognition gives us that external validation that our work can be benchmarked against the best of the best, driving us to achieve more and to continuously improve.”
Charlotte Woodworth, gender equality director at Business in the Community, said: “Being named as a Times Top 50 employer for gender equality demonstrates Emerald Publishing’s commitment to driving a more equitable, inclusive world. But while the employers who made the list are doing great work prioritising gender equality, there is still more work to do. From addressing pay disparities to better supporting those with caring responsibilities, many employees, women among them, still face barriers to finding employment and progressing in their careers. It is every employer’s responsibility to play their part in reducing and removing gender inequalities from the workplace, and research shows this isn’t just the right thing to do, it also makes business sense.”
