Quercus has promoted Kerry Enzor to publisher, non-fiction, taking responsibility for the narrative trade list in addition to her role leading the Greenfinch and Laurence King Student and Professional imprints.
She takes over from Katy Follain, who is moving to Bloomsbury in the spring.
Enzor re-joined Quercus from Quarto in 2019 to set up the Greenfinch imprint and in that time has established a wide-ranging list encompassing reference, self-improvement, gift and lifestyle. The publisher said: “Her acute commercial sense and strong international outlook has already resulted in successes ranging from A Toolkit for Modern Life by Dr Emma Hepburn to Frances Tophill’s Rewild Your Garden; Dr Elsa Panciroli’s The Earth to Ambra Edwards’ The Plant Hunter’s Atlas published in partnership with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.”
Reporting to Enzor in her new role will be director of non-fiction Richard Milner, who will continue to concentrate on sport, military history, music and social history; publishing director Jane Sturrock, (who returns from parental leave on 6th February) focusing on commercial non-fiction across pop culture and self-improvement; and Nina Sandelson, who is promoted to editor and will start to acquire smart narrative non-fiction and memoir with an international outlook.
Enzor will also continue to commission popular science, gardening and reference books with world rights for Greenfinch, supported by commissioning editor Emily Arbis, focusing on MBS, wellbeing and personal development, and Nicole Thomas, recently promoted to commissioning editor, who will concentrate on trends across platform-led cookery and lifestyle. Enzor will also continue to lead the Laurence King Student and Professional editorial team; with editorial director Kara Hattersley-Smith and commissioning and development editors Liz Faber and Sophie Wise acquiring “visually stunning” books within the fields of fashion, architecture, design and the creative industries.
Enzor said: “I couldn’t be more delighted to be leading the incredibly talented non-fiction teams at Quercus. As the UK non-fiction market becomes ever more polarised – widening the gap between a book you’d like to read, and a book you need to read – readers are either looking for knowledge to make sense of the changing world around us, or practical solutions to navigate the challenges of daily life. I am incredibly excited about how we can answer those needs – while building on Quercus’ strong track record of reaching readers all around the world.”
Jon Butler, managing director at Quercus, added: “Kerry has made a huge impression in her three years at Quercus, proving herself to be an inspirational publisher, board member and manager. Creative, focused and ambitiously commercial for all her authors, she has also demonstrated a strong commitment to making our publishing as inclusive and international as it can be, as well as founding our annual paid internship partnering with the Black British Writing MA at Goldsmiths. We’re lucky to have her here at Quercus, and I’m excited to watch her talented team fly.”
