Edinburgh University Press (EUP) has entered into a publishing partnership with the Edward Gibb Memorial Trust to publish titles focusing on Islamic and Middle Eastern studies.
The trust was founded in 1902 in memory of Elias John Wilkinson Gibb, a scholar who specialised in researching the history, literature, philosophy and religion of the Turks, Persians and Arabs. His particular interest was the poetry of Ottoman Turkey and his work on this was published posthumously in the six-volume History of Ottoman Poetry.
The objectives of the trust are to promote the study and advancement of the areas of Gibb’s interest through the preparation of scholarly publications and funding scholarships.
"The EJW Gibb Memorial Trust has now embarked on a long-term partnership with Edinburgh University Press, whose list in Islamic studies has gained worldwide renown," said Professor Carole Hillenbrand, chair of trustees. "Future books will be published with the agreement of both the trust and EUP and they will be distributed by EUP. The trustees are delighted to open this new chapter in the history of the trust with the fresh opportunities it brings for promoting the profile of its books."
Chief executive of EUP Nicola Ramsey added: "We are really pleased to be working with the Gibb Memorial Trust, reflecting our commitment to collaboration, in this case with a partner who shares our ambition to publish excellent books in the field of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies."
